A Windows checkout with core.autocrlf=true (or a clone copied from Windows into WSL) turns every file into CRLF. bash then fails at "set: pipefail\r", so tools/*.sh and launcher/gradlew stop working and most of tests/ fails. .gitattributes keeps LF in the repository and in every checkout, CRLF only for .bat/.cmd, and marks images, fonts, jars and APKs binary. Renormalizing only touches launcher/gradlew.bat, which was stored with CRLF; it is now stored with LF and still checked out with CRLF. .editorconfig records the existing style: UTF-8, LF, final newline, 4-space indent, 2 for shell, JSON, YAML and Markdown.
